vaginitis

vaginitis
n.
inflammation of the vagina, which may be caused by infection (most commonly with Trichomonas vaginalis), dietary deficiency, or poor hygiene. There is often itching (see pruritus), increased vaginal discharge, and pain on passing urine. Vaginitis may indicate the presence of sexually transmitted disease. Atrophic vaginitis is postmenopausal thinning of the vagina caused by a reduction in the circulating levels of oestrogens. It is a common cause of vaginal dryness and postmenopausal bleeding.
